This is one of those views that feels stitched into La Crosse.
Coming into downtown, the old wall signs, brick buildings, and broad street all tell you exactly where you are. I wanted to paint that familiar feeling without overcomplicating it. Not some huge dramatic version of downtown. Just the quietness of an ordinary day, with the old Coca-Cola wall and the Leithold’s sign doing what they’ve always done.
That’s really what pulled me in. It’s a recognizable part of town, but it also has a kind of stillness to it when the light is right. The buildings hold the history, the sky opens it all up, and the whole thing feels settled in.
