Goole’s Timepiece – Original Oil Painting of Goole Clock Tower

$99.00
Sold Out

This is Goole’s clock tower, sitting where it always seemed to sit in my head: right at the top of town, acting like it had the place figured out before the rest of us did.

I painted this from a sketchbook drawing, memory, and the general residue of growing up around it. It was one of those landmarks that helped me navigate my childhood in Goole. Not in some grand romantic way. More in the practical way local landmarks work when you grow up with them. You always know where you are because that thing is there.

The real clock tower was built to mark Goole’s centenary in the 1920s, and local histories note that it was later moved a few metres into the middle of the roundabout where it still stands today. That probably explains why it feels so stitched into the layout of the town.

This painting isn’t for sale as an original, but I still wanted to paint it because some places stay with you whether you mean them to or not.
