Painted in August 2023 as part of the “Paint the Point” plein air event in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, Tributes on High Street captures a solemn yet beautiful moment in a tight-knit community. The scene shows Mineral Point’s iconic High Street lined with black and white flags—each one flown in honor of a local resident who had recently passed away. The entire street participated, with flags hung from nearly every storefront, creating a quiet and powerful tribute.
This 11x14 oil on canvas reflects the respectful hush of that day. The brushwork leans post-impressionist, with layered textures and soft edges that let the emotion breathe through the architecture. The color palette balances warm stone and cool shadow, emphasizing both the charm of the historic buildings and the weight of communal grief.
